Frequently asked questions

Straight answers about how we work, what it costs and what to expect.

Getting started

How do I apply?

Click Apply now and answer a few quick questions. You will verify your mobile number with a code, and a finance specialist will call you to discuss your options. It takes just a few minutes.

Will applying affect my credit score?

Applying with Swan Loans will not affect your credit score. Our initial comparison does not appear on your credit file; a full credit check only happens once you choose to proceed with a specific lender.

Do you charge upfront fees?

No. We do not charge upfront fees. Swan Loans receives a commission from the lender once your loan settles, and an origination fee may be included in the amount financed. All fees, including lender fees, are shown in your loan documents before you sign.

How much can I borrow?

It depends on the asset, your income and your credit history. Our online application starts at $10,000, and our borrowing power calculator gives you a rough guide.

Approval and timing

How long does approval take?

Many of our clients settle within 24 to 48 hours of applying, provided their documents are ready and the lender’s conditions are met. Timing varies by lender and vehicle.

What documents will I need?

Typically photo ID, recent payslips or financials, and details of the asset you are financing. We collect your bank statements securely through Experian Bank Statements, so you only need your online banking login. See our document checklist.

What is pre-approval?

Pre-approval is a conditional indication of how much you may be able to borrow before you choose an asset. The final approval depends on the asset, your documents and the lender’s assessment.

Do I need a deposit?

In most cases, no. The large majority of lenders on our panel do not require a deposit, but a small number do, usually depending on the asset or your credit profile. We will tell you upfront if it applies to you.

Credit history

Can I get finance with defaults or bankruptcy?

Yes. We regularly arrange finance for clients with defaults, paid or unpaid, and for people in a bankruptcy or debt agreement. Approval is always subject to lender criteria.

Will I pay a higher rate with bad credit?

Usually, yes. Lenders price in extra risk. Rates vary significantly based on your credit profile, income, deposit and the asset. Refinancing later can help once your profile improves.

Loans and repayments

Can I pay my loan out early?

Most lenders allow early payout, though some apply an early exit or discharge fee. Your specialist will point out which applies before you sign anything.

Do you help with private sales?

Yes. Many lenders on our panel finance private sales as well as dealer purchases. We carry out a digital inspection of every private-sale vehicle for our clients, at our own expense, including checking its registration.

Who do I speak to?

A Swan Loans broker. You deal with real people who answer the phone, not a call centre.
